What does this song key finder detect?

This BPM detector, key detector, and tempo finder analyzes audio in your browser and returns values for DJ sets, harmonic mixing, song covers, mashups, and sampling:

BPM (tempo)

Beats per minute, rounded to one decimal place. Robust against minor tempo drift in the source recording.

Musical key

The tonal center of the track (e.g. C major, A minor). We also output the Camelot code so DJs can tell at a glance which tracks mix together.

Confidence score

How strong each detection is, from 0 (no clear pattern) to 1 (textbook example). Low confidence often means polyphonic complexity, key changes mid-track, or unusual instrumentation.

Tips for accurate detection

BPM and key detection are statistical methods. Quality of input matters. Three practical tips for cleaner results:

Upload studio masters, not lossy rips

Clean 320 kbps MP3 or lossless WAV gives noticeably better detection than 96 kbps YouTube rips or live recordings with audience noise.

Steady rhythm helps BPM accuracy

Songs with a clear, consistent drum beat throughout (most pop, dance, rock) give the best tempo accuracy. Free-form ambient or rubato classical pieces are inherently harder.

Harmonic content helps key detection

Tracks with prominent chord progressions and melodic lines are easier than vocal-only or noise-heavy mixes. Pre-running our vocal remover and analyzing the instrumental track can sometimes help.

BPM and key finder FAQ

Is this a BPM finder for songs?

Yes. Upload a song and the tool detects its tempo in beats per minute. It works best on tracks with a steady rhythm and clear drum or percussion patterns.

Is the BPM and key finder free?

Yes. This tool is free to use and does not require login because the analysis runs in your browser.

Can it find the key of a song?

Yes. The key finder estimates the musical key, such as C major or A minor, and also shows a Camelot code for DJ-friendly harmonic mixing.

What is the difference between a BPM finder and a tempo finder?

They mean the same thing for most music workflows. BPM is the numeric tempo of a track, while tempo is the broader musical term.

Can I export BPM and key results?

Yes. You can batch-analyze multiple tracks and export the file name, artist, title, BPM, key, Camelot code and confidence as a CSV file.

What key is this song in — how do I find out?

Drop the file onto this tool. The song key finder reads the harmonic content and returns the most likely musical key (e.g. C major, A minor) along with a confidence score. For songs with key changes mid-track, the result reflects the dominant section.

How accurate is the BPM checker and tempo finder?

On clean studio recordings with a steady drum beat, BPM detection is usually within ±1 of the true value. Live recordings, rubato classical, or songs with tempo changes mid-track are inherently harder — the confidence score reflects this.
